How about adding an apple tree? Easy to eat and seasonal.
I would prefer a fruit that doesn’t need knife and plate. But , then we can eat apple directly. So I agree if we can eat apple directly.

yes i see it the same. it should be eaten directly 
if you are strong enough you can break apples in halves for your kids.
but i never saw someone eating apples with knifes.
that sounds like something a mean character in a hollywood movie would do.

Make it like pie . It can be eaten 4 times. Nice food to carry around while mining without leaving any bowls or plates.
