It looks to me like it was your fault. Your mom set you down and you walked away. With the lag in this game if you are constantly moving your mom will always try to pick you up at the location you used to be in. Had you waited and stayed put you would have been fed. Looks like she just gave up trying to catch you. When I tell a baby to stay and they don’t, I will watch them starve while saying “I told you to stay”.
Reasons to stay put:
-mom put you in a warm spot and expects to have more time before you starve.
-mom is searching for food and needs you to be exactly where she left you.
-you have been left next to a nursery fire with a nanny.
Moral of the story is stay where your mom leaves you. If you don’t get a town tour too bad. You can explore once you are able to feed yourself.

And yeah, general rule of the game as an infant is to stay in place. Especially since there’s already a marker in place. Well, these things will come naturally as you play more
