I decided to split this off from an unrelated suggestion for the convenience of others.

Loot Boxes

Maybe you could see little shiny slivers sticking out of the ground, and if you dig them up using a shovel, a hole appears, and out pops a treasure chest. You’d have to unlock it using a key. The loot inside might be rusty though!

You might also be able to find treasure maps in order to find the treasure chests and the keys. It would make for a good adventure! The bigger the treasure chest, the better the loot is.

Instead of requiring a key to unlock a treasure chest, maybe you could use a form of in-game currency to unlock it (locked treasure chests would require a key, but unlocked treasure chests would require a form of in-game currency). Depending on how long you live in a life, you’ll get in-game currency. The longer you live in a life, the more in-game currency you’ll get.
